Reasons for Abortions

  For many women, giving birth to a child is an experience of a lifetime as most hope to become mothers one day. However for some, giving birth can be a hard decision to make due to financial reasons, health issues, and other factors. When a woman decides against giving birth to her child and chooses abortion, there is usually a good reason behind it. Abortion is never a simple choice to make but for some it is the only choice.

  Women who are raped, victims or incest, or victims of sexual assault will often times opt for an abortion when a pregnancy is a result of such act. Many women feel guilty and shame because of the act alone and having a child usually amplifies such feelings. Other women feel that having a child after being raped or sexually abused only leaves horrible memories.

  Another reason that women decide to have an abortion is because of their mental, emotional, and financial state. Having a child is extremely expensive and as more women are becoming pregnant at such young ages, many of these girls do not have the money or mental or emotional preparedness to be mothers. Studies have shown that half of women who become pregnant before 18 do not graduate high school. This places a heavy burden on a mother who has to build a life for not only herself but her child. Being a single mom at such as a young age is not ideal.

  Some women are faced with having to have an abortion because of the health condition of the fetus. Often these women have planned and are ecstatic to be pregnant but the condition is the fetus is so abnormal and defective that an abortion is the best option. Many times the fetuses will grow into babies who are unable to live normal lives. Severe abnormalities are common reasons for a woman to seek an abortion.

  At the same time as wonderful as pregnancy is there are times when giving birth to a child can be fatal to the mother. Conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum can be deadly and often result in an abortion in efforts to save the mother's life.
